Adapt Discovery Practice for Channel Partners
Plan partner enablement around the reseller motion, usable data, and a small pilot.
Channel partners often sell alongside competing products, receive leads through distributors, and work under different data rules. A playbook for direct sellers may contain useful principles, yet its examples and questions can fail in that context. An enablement consultant should learn the partner motion before selecting what to adapt.
Ask a partner enablement manager where resellers enter a deal, what information they may share, and which partners are willing to test a new practice. Then identify a few core questions that support their role, such as how a partner uncovers urgency or confirms a joint next step. Keep the pilot short enough for busy partner teams.
In a fictional session, consultant Omar says, “Could a reseller use the same discovery course as the direct team?” Kelly, the partner manager, says, “They will not attend a long program, and they cannot share every customer detail.” Omar replies, “Let’s ask a top reseller to show us a typical distributor lead. We can spend ten minutes rehearsing a scenario built from the information they are allowed to use.” Kelly asks, “Will we need a separate process for every reseller?” Omar says, “We can test a common core with one adaptation for lead source and one for product choice.”
This keeps the design grounded in partner work. It also gives the channel leader evidence about participation and usefulness before extending the program.
Practice with a fictional distributor lead. The seller must open the conversation, state what they can verify, and ask for permission to involve the partner manager. Review the scenario for data restrictions and for a next step that fits the partner’s role.
